According to the CDC, back pain - specifically low back pain - is one of the most common ailments on the planet. Up to 25% of adults in the United States may have experienced back pain in the past three months. Often, this pain is fleeting: perhaps you overdo it playing with the kids or tackling a project around the house, rest up for a day, and are fine the next day. Unfortunately, some people experience back pain on a much longer-term basis and have trouble finding relief. If you’re one of them, this post is for you. The good news is that there are many options to treat your back pain out there - meaning you can avoid potentially addictive opioid medication or risky surgery. Here at Boss Chiropractic, we offer a wide range of back pain treatments tailored to the needs of the individual patient. Depending on what’s causing your back pain and what your goals for treatment are, we can find the treatment for you. Learn more about some of your options below, and if you’re looking for back pain treatment in The Woodlands, TX, call us today for an appointment! Spinal Decompression If your back pain is caused by pressure on a spinal disc, we might recommend spinal decompression. We’ll use a motorized traction machine to gently stretch your spine, shifting its position and taking pressure off the discs. The lack of pressure will give the discs the space and ability to heal, alleviating your back pain. Chiropractic Massage A massage isn’t just relaxing; it can be therapeutic as well. Our team can use chiropractic massage to target injuries in the muscles and other soft tissue that could be causing your back pain. After a few sessions, you could find that you’re back to your old self again. Cold Laser Therapy By increasing serotonin levels and interacting with your back on a cellular level, cold laser therapy can produce great relief from back pain. This type of treatment is typically painless. It’s also noninvasive and requires no medications. Electrical Therapies At Boss Chiropractic, we offer several types of electro-therapies, including electrical muscle stimulation, interferential electro-therapy, and microcurrent therapy. While there are important distinctions between these modalities, all of these therapies use electrical currents to stimulate the body’s natural healing and pain-relieving processes. The result: less back pain for you! The Bottom Line If you’re suffering from back pain, there’s no reason not to seek treatment. Let Dr. Boss and the rest of the team here at Boss Chiropractic help you get back to doing the things you love without pain. Your neck, also known as your cervical spine, is a coordinated network of nerves, bones, joints, and muscles directed by the brain and the spinal cord. It is made up of vertebrae that extend from the skull to the upper torso, and cervical discs which act as a buffer between bones to absorb shock. The bones, ligaments, and muscles of your neck support your head and allow for motion. Neck pain can happen for many reasons including muscle strains, worn joints, neck injuries, nerve compression, spinal stenosis, inflammation, arthritis, and more. Neck pain can range from minor and easily ignored, to excruciating and debilitating. At Boss Chiropractic, we understand that having neck pain can be very frustrating, and we are here to help. Many Americans suffer from neck pain and/or stiffness - in fact, neck pain is one of the most common types of pain disorders in the general population. Signs & Symptoms of Neck Pain Your neck is flexible and supports the weight of your head, this makes it susceptible to injuries and conditions that can cause pain and restrict motion. Some other common symptoms of neck pain include: Pain that is worsened when your head is in one position for too long Pain that is worsened with any movement of the neck or turning of the head Muscle spasms or tightness in the neck Soreness or tenderness in the general area Concentrated sharp or stabbing pains Decreased ability to move your head Dull aching or headaches How Chiropractic Care & Massages Can Help With Neck Pain Chiropractic care is a great way to manage and relieve swelling and discomfort caused by neck pain. A neck adjustment (also known as cervical manipulation) is a precise procedure applied to the joints of the neck. Adjustments can be very helpful in reducing joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine. They are done in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve the function of both the affected joint and nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments can reduce pain and discomfort, decrease inflammation, improve your range of motion, improve flexibility, and allow for increased activity. When chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy are used together, their benefits are multiplied. A chiropractic massage helps loosen ligaments and tendons that can make the joints stiff and painful. Massages can also help reduce overall muscle soreness, improve circulation throughout the body, treat muscle spasms, and help increase the range of movement in your neck. Our Chiropractic Clinic Can Help You with Neck Pain & More If you are interested in learning more about our neck pain treatments, do not hesitate to reach out to our team. At Boss Chiropractic we can also help you with other ailments including herniated discs , sciatica, shoulder pain , back pain , and more. When trying to better understand spinal injuries it is important to note how the brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves function as one. The nervous system includes all three of these and they work together to send messages of feelings or sensations that make our muscles move. When a spinal chord injury occurs, these messages are blocked below where the injury happened and can cause damage to these sensations or make them go away completely. In most cases, this will cause changes in strength and sensation, and it can affect several other functions. At Boss Chiropractic we deal with less severe spinal injuries that can be treated with spinal decompression and other chiropractic methods. Different Types of Rehab for Spinal Injuries There are many ways for one to injure their back and they can all have different levels of pain. Whether you have recently been in an accident or suffered an injury at work, have a medical condition or illness, or have poor lifestyle choices that cause your back pain, we offer different spine rehab options for each. Our team is proud to offer a variety of chiropractic and holistic treatment options that include everything from your standard adjustments and manipulations to chiropractic massages, spinal decompression and more. As chiropractic treatments have advanced throughout the years, we have begun to offer several therapies that include cold laser therapy (a laser than increases serotonin levels, allowing the body to better heal itself), electro muscle stimulation (an electrical current that reduces swelling) and Microcurrent Therapy (small amounts of current that replicate your body’s natural signals). We can also offer Frequency Specific Micro-Current Therapy which is a holistic healing treatment that increases ATP (energy) production in cells of the body. No matter what caused your spinal injury, there are now more ways than ever to have it heal in a shorter period of time. There is no reason to live in pain; give the team at Boss Chiropractic a call to learn about the best spine rehab treatment options for you.

While most people seek help from a chiropractor for back or neck pain, chiropractic care can also be used to treat shoulder pain. Having shoulder pain can prevent you from participating in activities you love, such as tossing the football around with your kids or taking a swim in your pool. It can also make completing everyday tasks difficult, like carrying your child to bed or putting away dishes on the top shelf. All in all, living with shoulder pain is both frustrating and inconvenient, but you don’t have to keep dealing with it. If left untreated, your shoulder pain can become more severe, and can even travel to your neck, back, and arms. Whether your discomfort is a result of joint or tissue irritation, Dr. Christopher Boss at Boss Chiropractic can help you feel relief from this bothersome condition. You can look forward to reduced pain and discomfort, decreased inflammation, and improved flexibility and range of motion with a chiropractic adjustment that focuses on your shoulders. In addition to adjustments, we also offer various other chiropractic treatments that can help you with your shoulder pain. Our chiropractic massage can help reduce recovery time if your shoulder pain is a result of an injury, and it can also help with balance and flexibility. We offer microcurrent therapy to help with chronic pain as well. Instead of dealing with your shoulder pain, turning to pain medication for temporary relief, and sitting out of the activities you enjoy, make an appointment with Boss Chiropractic in The Woodlands, TX. You’re always in good hands when you’re a patient of Dr. Boss. He will pinpoint the source of your shoulder pain and recommend the best treatment option going forward. Give us a call today for compassionate care and shoulder pain relief!

These days, it’s not uncommon for the average office employee spend 8 hours or more seated in front of a computer each day. This isn’t what nature intended for us, and prolonged periods of sitting can have health consequences. Many of us are aware of the effects of a sedentary lifestyle on our waistlines, but how often do you stop to think about what it could be doing to your spine? Sitting for hours a day can result in poor posture, slouched shoulders, and neck pain. Luckily, there are a few minor adjustments just about anyone can make at their desk that will help in maintaining proper posture throughout the day. Chair: When you sit down in your office chair, adjust the height of the chair to allow both feet to be firmly planted on the ground in front of you. Try to be mindful of keeping both feet on the ground and legs uncrossed, as crossing your legs naturally curves your spine. Make sure your hips touch the back of your chair and adjust the lumbar support if your chair has the option. This will help give your lower back an extra bit of support. If your chair does not have adjustable lumbar support, a rolled-up towel or small pillow can be used instead. Computer Monitor: Make sure that you’re not looking down at your monitor. The top of your monitor should be no more than a couple of inches above eye level. Looking down at your monitor will cause your head to naturally creep forward and down. The average human head weighs about 10 pounds, so the more you lean your head forward and down, the more your neck and back must struggle to keep it held up. You can purchase stands in most office stores and online that are designed to raise your monitor to the proper level. Large books, such as the telephone book will work quite well, too. Keyboard & Mouse: Your keyboard and mouse should be in a position that allows your arms bent at a 90-degree angle, with your forearms parallel to the floor. Position your keyboard and mouse so that you are not having to reach for them. Reaching for your mouse or keyboard throughout the day can cause you to unknowingly slouch forward. Check-In: Take a quick break about every half hour to stand up and stretch. This will allow you to “check-in” with your body to ensure you are maintaining good posture throughout the day. Taking a quick moment to stretch will also increase blood flow and naturally re-energize you. A simple standing overhead stretch (stand up, raise your arms above your head, interlock your fingers, and push up) a few times a day is incredibly refreshing. Maintaining good posture isn’t entirely effortless, but it can be made easier by following these simple tips. If you’re looking for more tips on what can be done to maintain good posture throughout the day, check with your chiropractor. They can help you to make small changes and set goals that will eventually have a big impact on not only your spine but your overall health. Have you found that you have over-indulged this holiday season? Perhaps you have put on a few extra pounds from all those delicious holiday cookies and treats, or maybe your hectic holiday schedule has you feeling run down. It’s easy to fall into bad eating, exercising & sleeping habits this time of year. If you find that you are feeling less than healthy right now, don’t despair! Keep reading for some simple tips on how to hit the reset button, and get your energy back after the holiday season. 1. Get Moving: Join a gym, or simply lace up those sneakers and take a nice walk. After dinner is the perfect time for a refreshing stroll. Not only will this aid in digestion, but you’re also burning calories, and building muscle. As a bonus, many homes are still displaying holiday lights this time of year, which you can admire on your walk. 2. Drink More Water: Drinking water before meals can help aid in giving you a sensation of fullness, which will help to prevent you from overeating. Drinking water in between meals can help stave off the feeling of hunger, causing you to snack less. Drinking more water will also help flush excess sodium, which can reduce bloating & constipation. 3. Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Getting a full, undisturbed 7-8 hours of sleep will leave you feeling refreshed and alert the next day. You’ll find that your mood & memory will improve, and it can help aid in weight loss, or help you to maintain a healthy weight. 4. Purge the Sweets: If you find that you have been left with an abundance of cookies and candy laying around after the holidays, ditch it! Offer it to your friends, your co-workers, or throw it out if you must. Having these foods at arm’s reach will only make it easier for you to over indulge. 5. Avoid Alcohol: A sip of bubbly on New Year's Eve won’t do too much harm, but Americans, in general, tend to over-do it when it comes to “holiday spirits”. Give your body a break and reduce or eliminate alcohol. Try a “dry January” by avoiding alcoholic drinks for the month of January. Swap out beer & cocktails for a refreshing and tasty glass of carbonated water with slices of lemons & limes, or relax in the evening with a cozy cup of herbal tea instead of a glass of wine. 6. Eat Clean: Vegetables, lean proteins, more vegetables, fruits, nuts & whole grains (in moderation) are all key in getting your weight, mood, and energy levels back on track after the holidays. Avoid eating prepared foods & restaurant meals, since you can’t always control how much fat and sugar they add to your food. If you have questions about what you can and can’t eat, or the best foods for your weight loss goals & medical needs, contact your physician or nutritionist for dietary advice. The holiday season is a joyous time. We are often happy for the opportunity to visit with friends and family and enjoy good company, indulgent treats, and an adult beverage or two. If the merriment of the season has you feeling lethargic, bloated, run down, or just plain sick, take the time to hit the reset button and get your mind and body back on track.

Sciatica pain comes from the sciatic nerve, which is a large nerve running down the back of each leg from the lower back. Pressure on the sciatic nerve causes radiating pain, which can range from mild to severe. Sufferers can experience dull to sharp pain, tingling, or numbness. There are many causes of sciatica pain. The most common causes include herniated discs, narrowing of the spinal canal, bone spurs, irritation of the sacroiliac joint, which is located near the bottom of the spine, and arthritis. Not all sciatica pain is chronic, and it can often disappear within several weeks to several months. Muscle strain, pregnancy, and fractures, for instance, can lead to temporary sciatica pain. There are numerous exercises that sufferers can try at home for temporary sciatica pain relief. A quick internet search will provide numerous options, such as gentle yoga, hamstring stretches, and core strengthening. Certain causes such as misaligned vertebrae can be treated with chiropractic care. No matter what the root of the cause, it’s always best to speak with a medical professional for diagnosis before attempting treatment. If you discover that misaligned vertebrae are the cause of your sciatica, contact Boss Chiropractic. Our adjusters can help relieve your pain and correct your alignment. Call today to learn more!

Many of us experience shoulder pain at some point in our lives. One of the main causes of shoulder pain is Bursitis. Bursitis is an inflammation of fluid filled sacs, which help decrease friction, rubbing and irritation between muscles, tendons, bone and skin. Irritation can occur from repetitive impact such as repetitive lifting, or from serious sudden trauma. This painful condition can be described as feeling similar to tendonitis, and is often felt when lifting the arms overhead. Chiropractic manipulations can help relieve the shoulder pain and decrease inflammation associated with Bursitis through adjustments and electric stimulation. Your chiropractor may also recommend stretches and exercises to help restore normal biomechanics. No matter the cause of your shoulder aches and pains, the team at Boss Chiropractic is ready to help diagnose and treat your condition. We have many innovative and holistic options for treating common shoulder pain. Our main goal is to help find the root cause of your pain and relieve it, so you can get back to living a pain free life. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
